Our new collet system, adapted from metal working technology, is designed to hold small parts safely and accurately in a lathe without marring. Its components are a machined steel Collet Chuck threaded to accept either a 33mm, 3/4-16, 1"-8, 1-1/4"-8 or 1-1/2"-8 lathe spindle*, a matching Spanner Set and precision ground Collets in five 1/8" increments: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4". Individual collets have a range of .040 (forty thousandths,) or about 1/32" and non-stock ones in both regular and metric sizes can be specially ordered. (Please call for details on this.) The collets hold so securely that wrenches are usually unnecessary, with hand tightening being sufficient for most applications. In addition to holding wood stock for turning, the system is useful for mounting assorted mandrels, small shop-made face plates, metal turning blanks and small jam chucks.
