Roman Miles
Download Skins
Roman Centurio
Download Skins
I'm proud to
finally offer a set of Roman military skins the way I have
always WANTED to do them. There's a great deal I could say on
the subject of Roman military dress... especially after all
the research I did for this project! However, I think the
skins can speak for themselves. I designed them to mix and
match as much as possible and anyone experienced with CMX
files should be able to create their own combinations. If that
isn't your thing, I've included three different outfit choices
for the regular soldier and two for the centurion. Also, for
the first time, these skins are being offered in all three
skin tones, so no one will be left out!
These particular uniforms are based on what a typical Roman
soldier would have probably worn during the height of the
Roman Empire- 50 C.E. or so. The regular miles or
soldier is wearing an iron lorica segmentata for armor.
He carries a scutum (shield), pilum (spear), and
wears a gladius (sword). The army sandals are called caligae
and have hobnails on the bottom to prevent wear. (Yes you can
really see that in the game.) My soldier wears a red tunic,
though there is some question as to whether the tunic was red
or white.
The centurio
wears lorica squamata, a shirt of iron scale mail. He
carries a round shield in the likely fashion of centurions and
also his gladius. In addition, the centurion wears a pugio,
or dagger on his belt. Regular soldiers may have had these
sometimes as well, but I wanted to distinguish a bit more
between the two. As a mark of his status and to promote
visibility, the centurion also wears a transverse red
horsehair crest on his helmet, creating a truly stunning
effect!

Commodus
Download Skin The
Emperor Commodus is the final character in my series of skins
from the movie Gladiator. He's the quintessential
baddie in his black leather armor. He wears variations on this
outfit throughout most of the movie. This version is taken
from the scene where Commodus first confronts Maximus in the
Flavian Amphitheater. He wears a silver-trimmed muscle
cuirass, matching greaves, bracers, a silver crown, and a long
cloak fastened with a gold chain. Certainly a fitting villain.
This character uses one of the most complex meshes I've
created so far-- be aware that the file is rather large.
While all the other characters in Gladiator are
fictitious, Commodus really was an emperor of Rome during its wane.
However, his life does not follow the story of the movie. He
was born in 161 C.E. and ascended to power after the
death of his father Marcus Aurelius. His reign, between the
years of 180-193 C.E., was characterized by depravity,
corruption and other unpleasantness. Like his counterpart in
the movie, he actually enjoyed gladiatorial combat, hosting
and watching many games and even fighting against gladiators
himself, though certainly in relatively safe conditions. After
all, who would dare wound or kill the Emperor of Rome?
Ultimately, he would die not in the arena, but from being
straggled, his irresponsible use of power finally catching up
with him in 192 C.E.

Lucilla
Download Skin Here
is another character in the series I am making from the movie.
Lucilla is the long suffering sister of the corrupt and evil
emperor and she's got a crush on Maximus. Her costume is worn
during the end of the movie during the final confrontation. It
is certainly the least authentic Roman costume I've ever seen,
but attractive nonetheless. (There is something to be said for
that, given the difficulty in making authentic female roman
skins, so I was to some extent choosing the easiest costume
technically.) Lucilla wears a long silk skirt with a tight
fitted brocade bodice over the top and a thin lacey cloak
pinned around her shoulders. She wears a variety of gold
jewelry: earrings, bracelets, and rings. Her sandals provide
some lift and criss-cross up her legs. Please note that due to
the detail and complexity of this skin, it makes for a rather
long download. Please be patient.

Maximus (a.k.a.
The
Spaniard)
Download Skin
Yes, its Maximus,
straight from everyone's favorite movie about ancient Rome. He
looks as close as possible to the character given the
limitations of The Sims, though I think he turned out quite
well. In terms of accuracy, he isn't very and doesn't fit into
any standard gladiator classification that I can think of, but
he still looks pretty cool. He's dressed in the armor worn
later in the movie, especially during his fight with the
tigers. This includes molded black armor, a matching shoulder
guard, and of course a sword and shield. The download comes
with two different versions of the skin, one holding the
weapons, and the other without. Believe me, it looks pretty
funny to see the sim going about his everyday routine carrying
a sword and shield! This is my first try and mesh making, so I
suspect improvements could be made, but please be supportive
since this is my first try. I hope you enjoy playing with him
as much as I enjoyed making him! :)

Dresses
with Improved Meshes Set I
Download
Skins
These dresses
utilize more sophisticated and accurate meshes than have
been used previously. They add more definition to the
clothing and allow better draping and shape in the
dresses. The dress on he left is a simple blue tunica with
a belt and gathered waist. In the middle, the model wears
a simple white tunica with her stola draped and tied about
her waist. On the right, the woman wears here stola draped
across and around her shoulders and over one arm,
fashionable and warm. The meshes are as always by the
wonderful
Jerome.
HUGE thanks for your help!
Note: This download
contains the skins and body mesh. The heads are NOT
included. If you like them, you can get the skins and
meshes for them at Sim Freaks.

TogasDownload
Skins
Here are some togas. The mesh for this skin was created by
Jerome.
Togas were the traditional dress for all male Roman
citizens. Boys first began to wear togas at the age of
twelve or thirteen, when they became official citizens.
The first toga was conveyed at a special ceremony for the
occasion. Togas were dress clothes for Roman men. If
tunics represent a modern pair of jeans and a tee-shirt, a
toga is like a modern day suit and tie. Almost all
citizens had togas. The rich conveyed their status through
the size and quality of their togas. They were often made
of fine wool and could be up to thirteen feet square.
Senators and other officials were identified by the purple bands on the edge
of their tunics initially, but as the empire aged,
everyone started wearing decorations on their togas and it
became less of a distinction. But still, togas remain the
classic sign of Roman manhood. One of the
togas shown
here is for a senator. It is plain white with a purple
band and a matching under-tunic showing through. The other
toga is for an average citizen. It is very typical for
most men of Rome, plain white and worn with a white tunic.
Tunics did not come in any other colors except for white,
with the possibly exception of a purple one which was worn
on special occasions by the emperor. However, while we
consider white a rather mundane color today, pure white
cloth was much more valued at that time because of the
difficulty of obtaining such purity of color and then
keeping it spotlessly clean.

This
dress is based on a design from 25 A.D. It features a long
dress with a high waist and loose, pinned sleeves of a

decorative red band. The woman also wears a gold
bead-edged bracelet. Thanks to Jerome
for the use of this skin with the fully dress and
three-quarter length sleeves.

Roman
Bikinis
Download
Skins
It
seems from both frescos and archaeological finds, the
Romans had underwear and swim clothes very much like ours.
The bikini isn't exactly a recent invention! One fresco
shows to young girls exercising together with balls and
weights. To the Romans, good health and physical fitness
were always important. After their bath, young Roman women
probably enjoyed playing games and exercising with their
friends, much as we do today when we visit the pool. These
two will look very fashionable while they work out,
wearing colorful bikinis and fine golden arm wraps.

Gladiators
Download
Skins
You
can find these two in one of the "House of the
Dolphin" stories, but I thought I put them here as
well for easy access and because they are wonderful skins.
Jerome did an
amazing job on the meshes and it really shows! Of the two
gladiators one is a retiarius, or net man. His weapon is a
trident and a net and he wears very little armor. His
strategy is to be fast and cunning so as to tire out his
more clumsy opponents and eventually ensnare them. The
other gladiator is a samite. He wears a restrictive helmet
and carries a heavy sword and shield. He has slightly more
armor than the retiarius, but would have a limited field
of vision and so less able to run about. The download
includes everything you see above, as well as separate
skins that do not include the weapons and armor but only
the clothing. After all, it is pretty hard to cook or do
much else with a sword and shield sticking out! For more
fun, go over to "The House of the Dolphin" and
download an arena so that your gladiators will have a
place to fight.

Boy's
Tunics
Download
Skins
This
is the second installment in my new collection of
children's clothing. Jerome has customized another
skin so that the boys are able to wear actual tunics. All
three boys are wearing bullae, charms worn by boy
children to protect them from the problems of childhood.
All three tunics are plain in nature. Two are of the
conventional design, while the third is sleeveless and
pinned at the shoulders. All are very practical and sure
to resist the rough wear that they will likely get.

Roman
Girl's Tunicae
Download
Skins
One
thing that I felt I really was missing on the web site was
any quantity of children's clothing. I am working to fix
this. This is a set of three different girl's dresses. In
Roman times, girls dressed very much like their mothers
with the possible exception that their clothes were
simpler. This was done for practical reasons since young
girls were more likely to get dirty and play as they are
today. These three girls are weary tunicae of
various styles, some with and some without shoulders and
with the belts at different heights. Thanks Jerome
for letting me use his girl's meshes.

Ancient
Egyptian Costumes
Download
Skins
At
the height of the Roman Empire, Rome ruled much of the
ancient world, including ancient Egypt. However, the
Egyptian citizens at that time probably would not have
dressed like the couple above. Their clothing is typical
of the clothing worn in ancient Egypt between 2000-1700
B.C.E. At this time, Egypt was a powerful country in and
of itself. The man wears a traditional kilt with a golden
and lapis lazuli belt with a hanging decoration. The woman
wears a patterned dress and collar as well as a braided
wig. Both are wearing kole make-up around their eyes. The
make-up was more than fashionable; It protected the
wearers from the dry air and sun of their desert home.

Roman
Tunicae
Download
Skins
For
some time, I have wanted to provide a better body type for
Roman women's clothing. Most Roman dresses had high waists
and were more straight and fluid, unlike the normal long
dress model available currently for women. Thanks to
Jerome, I now have just the right body. To go with it, I
have created some more authentic roman dresses based on
actual ancient designs found is frescoes and mosaics. Each
will make a wonderful addition to your matron or puella's
wardrobe.

Green
Dress
Download
Skin
This
dress more closely matches the actual style of roman
women's clothing than anything I have completed so far. It
features a white under tunic with a dark green silk dress
over the white dress, with a light green silk shift over
the top pinned along the sleeves to reveal the under
layers. The look is completed by a necklace and gold
bracelets.

UPDATED!
These are tunics for the Patrician class. The noble's
tunic is taken from a Victorian book of Roman styles. It
features a red striped tunic with a necklace and
high sandals. The senator's tunic is simple save for the
purple bands that denote his rank as a senator.

The peasant's tunic
also comes from a Victorian design book. The lace up boots
make the tunic ideal for traveling or heavy work. The
other tunic is another simple, belted tunic to be worn by
slaves and features a leather collar with an
identification tag for slaves that might try to run away.

Celtic
Dress

Skins
They
were requested. . . so here they are. This pair
represents, a typical, albeit overly romanticized version
of Gaulic and British barbarians prior to their
assimilation into the Roman empire. The man is
appropriately tattooed and is wearing blue plaid pants.
The woman wears a brown home-made dress and has a green
shawl tied around her waist. For real fun, get a
group of these ruffians and make them live like
barbarians-- no toilets, beds, entertainment;
then invite them over to your legion's fort and watch the
fun begin.
