Simple Wall Set By Rollo      Download Walls

One can never get enough walls, and Rollo has made a very nice set of simpler designs that are useful for the homes and businesses of rich and poor Sims alike. These walls are predominately in the Third Pompeian style and utilize bright colors and very graphic designs. I am personally fond of the very simple plaster walls as I find I never have enough of these for decorating more simple and common rooms.

Wall Fresco Set I by PossumRose      Download Walls

I was really impressed by some of the Roman wall designs that were posted on the forum several days ago. I asked their creator Vicki if I could add them to my site and was very thrilled when she said yes! She takes actual Roman artwork and wall designs and compiles different pieces to form tons of new patterns. E-mail her and let her know how much you like her neat designs!

Garden Frescoes       Download Walls

If you take a look at some of my other walls, you'll see that these are very similar. In fact, they are inspired by those actual Roman designs. These designs have been hand drawn however and expand upon the garden theme. I've added a panel with an orange tree, two olive trees, a bird bath, and a grape arbor, all common plants for the Romans. The bottom is decorated with a lattice work pattern. These walls will look fine either inside a room or on the outside walls encompassing the peristylium.

Roman Walls with Graffiti      Download Walls

We know from excavations in places like Pompeii and Herculaneum that the Romans adorned their walls with graffiti, much as we do today. The subjects were the same: The messages expressed love and hate as well various endorsements for sports teams or businesses. In addition to the expressions we are accustomed to today, graffiti was used as a means of political expression. Wealthy Romans had a certain number of poorer dependents and tenants that relied on them. Political expressions could be used to encourage these people as well as others that held the individual in esteem. As a result, the rich that were in this position often wrote political slogans on the outsides of their houses for everyone to see. When the elections were over, they had only to paint over the words. This collection of walls contains six designs, utilizing three basic outside wall types with different configurations of graffiti on each. They work very well with the store walls below or with the yellow stucco wall that comes with The House of the Dolphin.

These basic red and white stucco designs and onces like them were extremely common in stores and the homes of the poorer Romans. They were also common wall choices in a storage room or kitchen of wealthier citizens. Wherever you chose to use them, they will make a fine addition to your Sims' villa or insula.

Above is a small sampling of some of thew walls available in this pack. All of them are from the House of the Dolphin. Many, including the ones above were taken from actual frescos and were re-created individually by me. Included are walls for four bedrooms, a garden, the atrium complete with door borders, the dinning room, and the study, as well as several other wall tiles.

First Style Wall Frescos       Download Walls

Roman fresco designs can be largely divided into four styles, each style succeeding its predecessor historically. The walls above represent typical work of the first style, which was in fashion until around 80 B.C. First style frescos are typified by their use of bold primary colors and simple square designs. These frescos were often painted to resemble bricks of marble, as can be seen above. Historically accurate, these frescos have been designed from scratch and continue the high quality floor and wall tradition started in The House of the Dolphin. They will make a great addition to any Roman home.

Third Style Wall Frescos      Download Walls

These later period walls were popular primarily during the reign of Augustus. There is a trend toward simplicity, breed from Augustus' supposedly plain lifestyle. The walls of this time are characterized by large panels containing complex scenes with simple panels flanking them on either side. The border is a simple design, a departure from the architectural styles of earlier and later periods. The two simple walls depict a small cupid with his bow, while the main scene shows Venus with her husband Mars, a popular theme in Roman art.

Here are two simple fresco tiles for your walls, both are excellent because unlike many of the frescoes on this site, a single tile looks good repeated numerous times, whereas many of the scene fresco tiles will only look good repeated once.

Cycle of the Mysteries Wall Panels      Download Walls

Above is only a small sample of over ten different wall panels in the above pack. Many fit together to form larger two and even three tile scenes. These scenes come from a wall in The House of the Mysteries outside Pompeii. They depict the initiation rites into the cult of Dionysus, a group to which the lady of the house probably belonged. This file is a big one, so have patience.

These walls also come from a house in Pompeii. They were originally found in a bedroom and depict various buildings, archways, and doorways.

These two wall tiles come once again from a house in Pompeii. They go together and are nice because the fit together in a alternating pattern to form a continuous scene. They were originally in the peristylium (inner court yard) walls, but would look excellent in any room of the house.
